As a young girl, I was enchanted with beautiful colors my home-folks had on their shirts, blouses, dresses, skirts, belts, and bags. I remember my mom and grandma working on the loom in long winters, producing unbelievably colorful kilims (rugs), table runners, wall carpets and other things. Every single item was handmade from wool or linen fiber and hand colored. Egg coloring, embroidery, knitting, and beading were very much popular activities in my family. Yes, the pictures from that ocean of colors were and still are the most precious memories I have!
Every time I paint or make jewelry I use those very vivid images from my childhood. Because of that I’m staying connected to my visual perceptions of everything that I’m experiencing in my life.
I live and work in Mason, Ohio. Mason is like a jewel with its beautiful surroundings - parks, stadiums, rivers, numerous creeks and lakes. The sunsets here are gorgeous! There are also many farms with their charming barns and fields! When you are outside in such fine nature it is very hard not to notice the striking sunsets, the blue sky, fresh crisp air in the morning, or ever-changing river water. And all that we see around us deserve to be painted.
I like to paint en Plein-air. The benefits of painting on location are way more than just being in front of the subject. You work out all of your senses, and you are getting to know the space you are painting in. The changes of the season, the time of day, and the weather conditions all play a unique role in choosing what to paint.
From my childhood days I still have dreams about how beautiful were the quiet summer nights, how warm and silky was the water of the nearby creek, how crystal-clear were the sunny winter days in the mountains… these images often go onto my canvas.
For the viewers of my work, I offer a journey into nature helping them to see and understand better the world they are living in. Happy journey, my friends!
